I spend A LOT of time talking about sleep. I talk to my husband and day care staff about how much sleep Poppy has had. I talk about how much sleep I’m getting with my mum and Mother’s Group. I constantly keep a mental record of Teddy’s sleep and wake times….sleep is a BIG DEAL for us at this stage of our lives, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that our days literally revolve around it.
I recently had the opportunity to meet the Protect-A-Bed team, try out their range of products and learn how their mattress and pillow protectors can assist me in that elusive pursuit of more sleep.
You might wonder how a mattress protector can make a difference for your family’s health and wellbeing and I wondered the same thing, but these guys have turned me!
When you look at your little sweetheart sleeping soundly in their bed, no one wants to think about sweat, dust mites, skin flakes or bacteria lurking below (the thought makes me want to vom) but the reality is, if you don’t have quality mattress and pillow protectors, your bedding is not protected against any of these things.
We spent a small fortune on Poppy’s ‘big girl’ bed and then had to purchase a special mattress to fit its non-standard size, so the last thing I want is to have to replace it due to spills, stains or accidents.
As a family with two young children we will soon be, undoubtedly, faced with bedwetting and potentially more night waking for everyone in the family. The Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors can absorb up to 1litre of liquid ensuring any accidents do not harm your mattress.
I have a great tip for first-time mums- this has served us well on many occasions. I used to do this with Poppy because she had a tendency to vomit as a baby. When you make up the cot (or bed), put on a mattress protector, fitted sheet then double up with ANOTHER mattress protector then fitted sheet on top again. This means that if they vomit, wee etc. on the first sheet you can bundle it up and throw it in the laundry and there’s already new bedding made up and ready to go- you’re not scrambling looking for linen and making up beds in the middle of the night. When Protect-A-Bed products need cleaning, they can go straight into the washing machine at 60 degrees, killing any bacteria (as a germophobe I approve of this heat setting- it’s higher than most I have found) and they can also be tumble dried.
I chose the Protect-A-Bed Tencel Signature Series for my family because it is designed to stay cool in Summer and warm in Winter. If you have sensitive skin, you’ll want this range too. It’s approved by the National Asthma Council Australia Sensitive Choice Program, Red Nose (SIDS and Kids) as well as the Eczema Association as sensitive skin tried and tested.
