It’s a year where most of us cannot be with our beloved mum in person to celebrate all they do/have done for us and to show them how appreciated they are.
If you’re a mum, then its unlikely you’ll be treated to a high tea or restaurant lunch on the 10th of May, as we all continue to isolate and stay home for the greater good.
As gifting this year will not be an in-person experience, a lot of us will be turning to online shopping in order to send something special to significant women in our lives.
I love tracking down the perfect gift so I thought I’d put together a little gift guide with clickable links of ideas for Mother’s Day- 2020 Style!
You can’t go past fragrance for Mother’s Day. My advice is to always go for an eau de parfum over an eau de toilette- the concentration of oils is higher in a parfum so it will last much longer on the skin, giving you more bang for your buck.
If you’re wanting to choose something special whilst ensuring you don’t double up on one she already has, I highly recommend the new La Vie Est Belle Intensement by Lancome. I’m no fragrance expert, but I do gravitate towards florals and pretty, sophisticated bottles. This eau de parfum has a delicious soft floral fragrance which was created especially for Lancome by one of France’s leading perfumers.
For a home fragrance, a beautiful candle is a long lasting gift that also has the ability to enhance someone’s mood and evoke memories. Diptyque candles are so special and there is a scent for everyone, from the smell of vanilla, to roses to hazlenut tree.
*La Vie Est Belle Intensement $115-$225 here. Diptyque Roses Candle $89 here.
2020 is THE YEAR of leisurewear. I think just about every mum I know is revelling in the fact that they can dress for comfort every single day. However there is something to be said for the mood-boosting effect of putting on a stylish outfit that makes you feel good.
We are all looking for outfits we can comfortably move around in at home, but still look put together if we need to head to the supermarket or for future, post isolation running around town.
I have recently discovered Third Boi, an Australian leisurewear brand which is designed in Melbourne, and I am obsessed with these cute, comfy and stylish sweat sets. The colour palettes are divine- they’re unique but still fit in that ‘neutral’ colour category meaning they’ll pair back with other clothes in your wardrobe if you’re wanting to layer them with other pieces.
*Third Boi Pedro Jogger $89 here. Third Boi sweats $99 here.
Following on from leisurewear, how could the classic Mother’s Day gift of the humble pyjama set possibly be missing in any sort of 2020 gift guide? I recently saw a meme joking that 9pm is the time to remove your day pyjamas and put your night pyjamas on, and I suspect that this may be true for many of us. There’s a high chance you’ve spent a fair amount of your time isolating in your pjs and some of my favourite, luxe Australian sleepwear brands are Papinelle and, for a personalised touch, Love Parker, who offer free monogramming on all orders.
Papinelle Super Soft Waffle V-Neck Long Sleeve Top $44.95 here Papinelle Super Soft Waffle Jogger $44.95 here. *Love Parker short sets $99.95-$109.95 here.
It doesn’t get much cosier than with a new pair of slippers. A few cute pairs I love are:
EMU Australia Mayberry slides in baby pink $59.95 here. Peter Alexander Home Boot, currently $96 here. Papinelle Natural Sheepy Crossover Slides $59.95 here.
I know soaps and hand moisturisers are not exactly groundbreaking stuff to include on a list of ideas for Mothers Day but, at a time where we are washing our hands more than ever, I think these gifts are very thoughtful and probably the most useful gift for 2020.
One of my favourite special little somethings to give as a gift is a Chanel Bath Soap. They’re $34 each which makes for quite an afforable luxury gift, allowing your mum/special someone to lather up in these classic scents without breaking the bank. You can also elect to have them gift wrapped by the Chanel team. Chanel bath soaps $34 each here.
Going back to all that hand washing, and taking care of our skin, my favourite combo to have sitting near the sink is Aesop’s Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash paired with the Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm. Yes, they both have a ‘matching’ partner that is supposed to accompany them, but I prefer and recommend this particular combo.
The Reverence wash has amazing little granules which exfoliate your skin, and the Resurrection balm has (in my opinion) a nicer fragrance to end with (Mandarin Rind, Rosemary Leaf, Cedar Atlas)- this combo leaves hands soft and smelling like a spa. The 500ml bottles also seem to last a very long time.
Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash $40 here. Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm $105 here.
If you’re looking for something purse-sized, luxe and delicious smelling, a beautiful, rich, hand cream I have purchased for Mother’s Day gifts in the past have been the tubes by BYREDO. These scents are super unique whilst still having a nostalgia about them; with fragrance notes like rhubarb, freesia, tulip, white rose, peony, sandalwood and musk- DELISH!
BYREDO Hand Creams in Blanche, La Tulipe and Gypsy Water $57 each.
Whilst in isolation, a lot of us will be noticing increased dehydration in our skin- this is often the effect of being indoors with heaters on. This brings me to my next idea- Antipodes Baptise H20 Ultra Hydtrating Water Gel Moisturiser. This is a product I have recently added to my skincare routine and I now look forward to using this luscious gel every day. It smells ABSOLUTELY beautiful (like fresh roses) and really does intensely hydrate your skin.
If you’re looking for a useful gift, this product is suitable for all skin types and is fantastic value for money-it’ll be one that she repurchases.
*Antipodes Baptise H20 Ultra Hydrating Water Gel currently $39.49 here.
Last year my brothers and I all chipped in and got my mum a Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer for Mothers Day, as we figured a hairdryer is one item she uses every single day of her life. This year they have released a Mothers Day edition.
Dyson Supersonic hair dryer Mothers Day gift edition $549 here.
Another timely gift idea, seeing as none of us can duck out to grab a coffee at the moment, is a coffee machine. Guaranteed to get a lot of use right now and post isolation. I’ve selected one that is easy to use and easy to clean-perfect!
Lattissima One silky White Nespresso $399 here.
*Some products have been sent to me for review, but I have chosen to include the above items in my gift guide because I love them. All opinions are my own and this post is not sponsored. I do not receive any commission for the above links.
